The saw miters 0° to 60° left and right, with positive stops at 0°, 15°, 22.5°, 31.6°, 45° and 60° (left or right). the bevel Lock is located in the front of the saw for easy access and Quick adjustments from 0° to 48° (left and right). the direct drive gearbox with soft start is a key point of difference. Direct drive enables smoother start-ups and consistent, Constant power with No belts to slip or replace. The Electric brake provides added convenience. Additional features include a high-quality 60T carbide-tipped blade, built-in laser that indicates the line-of-cut, and improved dust Collection capability for use with a bag (included) or vacuum (sold separately). it also has a large-sized aluminum base that improves the stability of cutting stock for more efficient cutting it’s part of Makita’s expanding 18V Lithium-Ion system, the world’s largest cordless tool system powered by 18V Lithium-Ion slide-style batteries. Makita 18V Lithium-Ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star protection Computer controls™. Star protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. THIS IS A GREAT SAW ! I recently purchased this saw and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the build and accuracy right out of the box. I"m a huge fan of the old Hitachi slide saws and have many of them but I wanted a cordless saw ,so I purchased the new 18/36v Hitachi/Metabo... long story short it was a piece of crap and I sent it back. The new Makita has them all beat for accuracy and smoothness. The detents are tight and accurate and the forward controls are pretty comfortable. The dust porting is the best on the market. NICE WORK MAKITA !

I read some reviews here and was hesitant, but being a life long Makita lover I always take the chance and it paid off. After about an hour of really getting to learn the Miter settings, the angle lock out settings, the sliding arm lock out settings etc. I really started to get the flow of the saw. It does take a bit to get used to, but now its like night any day from the first time I used it. Made a bunch of cuts maybe ~40-50 and the batteries only went down 2/3s power. I probably need a more powerful vacuum to make use of the built in saw dust capture feature, but works OK. Laser is pretty cool as long as you adjust to be just outside where the blade will cut (how I like it). Nice fence with ability to screw in custom jigs etc. Cool built in clamp that you can switch to either side very easily and adjust to up to 6" of height. Really stoked this is a sliding saw that allows you to conquer larger pieces of wood or even some smaller plywood rips. Great saw so far will update in another 6-12 months.

Bought this to build my house. I am a pro, but used this ONLY on my personal house. House isn’t done and the saw is worn out. The saw is awesome. It works just as good as a plug in model. But the table is worn out already, meaning that it doesn’t turn freely. Changing the angle of the cut is difficult and feels like it’s grinding internally. I took it apart and greased it, which I shouldn’t have to do, which provided some short term relief. But not much. I bragged about how great this saw was for a while because it was. But to not even make it through one residential project is pitiful and unacceptable. I wouldn’t buy it again.

I really like this saw, I'm a Makita guy going way back, in general their tools are designed well. However, 2 things really bug me about this saw. One is that the dust bag didnt fit over the discharge, I had to cut it with a hacksaw before it would even slide on, I think they might have included the wrong one in the box. The second thing is that the laser beam that helps align the cut is an on/off switch, and doesn't turn off automatically. I've left it on only to find it still beaming away several weeks later. It slowly burns up the battery. Its not very bright anyway, worthless if you are using the saw outdoors.
