UPDATE about 8 months later. Have two of these. Both bows are still GREAT bows. Took a long time to get used to them. Work fantastic with my ancient fiddle and bare gut strings. My main issue was finding the right rosin. I cannot imagine a better bow for baroque style playing, except maybe if it were a bit more dampening. I no longer find the balance off, I think the balance is near perfect.Original review below:Took exactly three weeks to get to me from China, most of the delay stuck in customs.Probably like you, I was looking for a baroque bow to experiment with, that wasn’t $2000. I spent eighty. It is worth that. Decently short. Correctly about half as much hair as a modern bow. Correctly shaped with outward curve. This is the most important thing. Makers calling a bow with French curve, a “baroque” bow, should be ashamed. A little heavier than I hoped, and a little more tip heavy balance than I hoped, but still, it wasn’t fifteen hundred (or a LOT more, like the insane prices American and European makers are charging for these things). When I hold it far enough forward of the frog, like it should be held, the balance is OK.I think a little of the slight heaviness is because snakewood is just heavier than pernambuco. And beyond that, no one really knows how much the typical 1600s bow weighed anyway, because there aren’t any left to check out, they were all tossed in the trash. So this weight and balance might be historically correct, we just don’t know.It has about the responsiveness and flexibility I expected, after reading countless essays, and watching many, many videos about baroque bows.I’m glad it has a “normal” modern screw tensioner frog, even though not historically correct. I think a clip on frog would be a huge pain. I like being able to adjust the tension to just where it is most playable. Trying to hold a baroque violin without chinrest or shoulder rest is hard enough. Clip on frog would be just too much, I would give up.The stick I got is mostly nice and straight viewed from above - the maker did a good job bending it. The hair has good bite. The finish is extremely nice for the price.I would like this maker to make a baroque bow just exactly like this, but 10cm shorter, to be even more historically correct for even earlier music, going back to the 1500s. The only way to get something like that right now is to custom contract something for $2000+ from a maker in Europe or the US.Dear maker in China: can you make this bow exactly the same, but 10cm shorter and 45gm? It would be perfect then.

This bow is much lighter and a bit narrower and shorter than my standard bow, and there is less hair in contact with the strings. Tightening the nut gradually stretches the hair into a tighter bundle, providing precise control over bow hair tension. The nut turns smoothly and it feels like it is made very well. I love the feel of the bow and use it in preference to my carbon fiber bow for playing all kinds of music, not just the baroque.

For the price these bows can NOT be beat. The wood is high quality, well finished. Frog and adjustable screw are fitted well. If you are looking for an early bow that gives the 'feel' of a proper Baroque stick, this is the absolute best way to do that! The outward camber and flexible snakewood are great, and produce a high-quality sound. Bow hair is standard - I HIGHLY recommend the product and seller!
