Smartphone microphones are 'individually addressable' for lack of better words.Even though additional nonfunctional microphone hardware has been added and serves as the primary device, other microphones are still possible to use.i.e. the internal mic you are worried about.Android and IOS for instance do not provide user facing audio switching such that this product can be confirmed to be worthless by the average user, but with root, as an attacker would likely need to bypass the OS level microphone toggle or per-app permissions, this device is completely worthless. It's also likely feasible to switch which input device you are recording from given broad 'microphone permissions' on a per-app basis. This for instance is how speakerphone in the android dialer works. (Often by switching to a different mic for better sound quality in that mode)For the users who don't understand the above, consider this:Buy this device, plug it into a laptop, set the default input device to any other device, and record away with absolutely no issue or limitation whatsoever. The same situation exists on android or ios without a user facing indication that it is such. The takeaway: Do not be lured by the false sense of security this product provides, or the patently false and predatory marketing. In limited scenarios where you need nonfunctional dummy mic hardware, this may be useful, but this product is absolutely nonfunctional to prevent microphone access.

First off, this is absolutely great at what it does. You plug it into a USB port, it emulates a microphone but does not have anything connected to it, so any software that might be trying to listen in won't be able to. This is great on a device like an iPhone 15 or Android device were the device assumes that any plugged in microphone is what you will be wanting to use. With Windows or Mac, though, it is a little more complicated. Each application can usually select which microphone to use. You can change the default mic to the Mic-Lock, but a probing piece of software can just hop around to the different mics until it knows finds something active. In other words, it does what it says it does, but the utility is a little less present on a laptop.

It does what it says; I just had to unplug it to see my email, besides my email didn’t know what it was. MacOS will make you tell it what it is before it lets you go forward so that’s good. I’ll update review if anything weird happens, so far so good.

This blocks your microphone from listening to everything you say. Helped my ads out. Got really annoying when I sat and tested the mic record. Talked about a specific motorcycle for 15 min with instagram and facebook open. Next day, ads for that exact model. Highly recommend
