Not really sure how this is supposed to work, but it does allow a headset to be attached and listened to without needing Bluetooth. It is a bit static noisy. Otherwise works.

Smartphone microphones are 'individually addressable' for lack of better words.Even though additional nonfunctional microphone hardware has been added and serves as the primary device, other microphones are still possible to use.i.e. the internal mic you are worried about.Android and IOS for instance do not provide user facing audio switching such that this product can be confirmed to be worthless by the average user, but with root, as an attacker would likely need to bypass the OS level microphone toggle or per-app permissions, this device is completely worthless.It's also likely feasible to switch which input device you are recording from given broad 'microphone permissions' on a per-app basis. This for instance is how speakerphone in the android dialer works. (Often by switching to a different mic for better sound quality in that mode)For the users who don't understand the above, consider this:Buy this device, plug it into a laptop, set the default input device to any other device, and record away with absolutely no issue or limitation whatsoever. The same situation exists on android or ios without a user facing indication that it is such.The takeaway: Do not be lured by the false sense of security this product provides, or the patently false and predatory marketing. In limited scenarios where you need nonfunctional dummy mic hardware, this may be useful, but this product is absolutely nonfunctional to prevent microphone access.

Does what it claims. Got them for myself and spouse's phones.Hangs down a bit and can get in the way but worth it for the security.

This plug along with the 3.5mm jack they sell are great additions for the paranoid and privacy minded. No issues with it being recognized by my phone.
