Especially during the winter months when our home heating systems suck humidity from the air, we need to keep our wooden musical instruments properly humidified. This product is designed for use with violins, but it also works beautifully with my f-hole style mandolins. The sponge inside the rubber tube never needs to be removed. Hold the tube under water to soak the sponge, then beat the tube against any hard surface (like the inside of the sink) to make sure there is no dripping water. Feed the tube into the end of the f-hole of the mandolin or violin and put the instrument in its case overnight. Repeat this process a couple of times per week during the winter months.

These do not appear to be effective in humidifying my semi-solid electric guitars. The hold very little water, leak and do not retain moisture. Find another option.

I use these in my ukuleles. They slip into the sound hole easily and need resoaking about once a week in winter when the humidity drops into the 20’s. I tried them in my guitars, but found them too small. I use larger drop in containers that hold a sponge for those. But, for the ukes, these are excellent!

The 3-pack arrived only with Chinese instructions. I ran them thru Google Translate to make sense of it (photos attached). Soak, then squeeze out, pat dry, insert thru F hole. The big plug on one end is big enough to prevent accidentally completely falling into the body of the violin.I can't really tell when the internal sponge has dried out, so I'm okay to err on the side of resoaking every day or two, if I think of it, during the driest winter days.
