Got the pump and filter installed, pump leaks a quart every 60 miles.Tore it all down, found that the casting for the filter is in contact with the engine case. Not going to grind my case or filter casting, going a different route.Passed the assembly off to a friend for him to use, same issue on his engine that I had on mine, he ground the filter casting down, clears the block, doesn't leak.

-1 star because there isn't enough information on these to pick a proper exhaust system and the oil filter situation is waay too vague to make an informed decision. From what I have gathered: a "stock muffler with the preheat on the right hand" which was made for later models (72-74?) will work and a Tri Mil "Hotdog" will work.I learned that Dansk makes a right hand stock muffler VW35021 which works perfect with these filter pumps - I'm sure that there are other options but there really isn't a whole lot of info on this stuff available. It looks like Walker and Bosal make "stock" options similar to this but the Dansk muffler is very nice build and fit. As for aftermarket designs, I haven't found anything else which is suitable. If only two exhaust system designs are compatible with this thing, that wouldcompletely suck; it would deserve even fewer stars. As for oil filters, I think almost any oil filter will have the threading and surface area / diameter for it, so you just need to pick one as anything would be better than the default strainer from the original design.Suggested filters (from reading forums) have been the PH8a and PH16. There are online filter compatibility charts which you can cross reference these two options with but I'm not too sure of the criteria they use for"compatibility"My father in law swears by a different filter size, his buddy told me to use a 1983 rabbit diesel filter... It is just too darn vague.Despite the obvious warning in the description that this pump is not compatible with the stock muffler, I had my stock Kadron muffler on hand to test the tolerance with a cheap filter similar to the PH16 and it most definitely won't work with a stock left hand muffler. I attached a picture for reference.Overall, the build quality seems good. I like that I didn't have to tap my case for this, however, I'd still appreciate a list of compatible exhausts and some best bets for oil filters.

This product is ok if you understand you need to take it apart, and inspect it. I needed to clean/deburr the aluminum casting. I also went ahead and blueprinted the pump to spec. After that it was fine!
