A common misunderstanding about sushi is that it is a fish dish. Well, the reality is that sushi is a rice dish. While sushi can be a feast for the eyes, often what you notice most is the white rice. These are just fake leaves, and there is nothing wrong with that. I love making and eating sushi; these leaves add to the experience. If you slap a piece of sushi on one of these fake leaves and then serve the sushi and leaf on a wooden plank, you may have just created a great visual experience with varied colors and textures.Add a little pickled ginger, some wasabi and maybe a dipping cup with a little soy or ponzu sauce and things can't get much better. At the same time, a fake leaf and a wood plank are pretty simple presentation and serving options. The leaves are washable and reusable. I just hand wash them with a little dish soap. I've been using the leaves for a while, and I have yet to notice them to be especially stainable, and while they are thin and delicate, they seem to wear well. At $10 for a pack of 200, I don't mind if one gets frayed and I have to toss it. Altogether, I think they are a good value and an inexpensive way to my sushi experience.
