I had my pilot bushing out in two pulls of my slide hammer. Saved time and effort then other methods.

As per the writing on the box, this will NOT work with Miata MX-5 pilot bearings (9/16" ID)! The minimum jaw opening is 11/16" (As marked on the box) and not Amazon's description which states 5/8"! This is very frustrating when you order this to do a job and then you find out it is not capable. We will now have to find another way to remove the pilot bearing to make the race this weekend. THANKS AMAZON!I now have to return this and the slide hammer which I specifically purchased for this as the one I have did not have the correct thread...... (Just include a frigging slide hammer!)

Because of the design of this you cant use the small OTC 5028 1-1/2 lbs. Slide Hammer as the 5/8-18 thread is deep inside the puller and the adapter for the small slide hammer is no were near long enough to reach the thread. When using it with a full size slide hammer its also little tricky to get started as there is no tapered lead in to center the thread.

Great lil tool for the money. If you’re an automotive professional as myself then this is a tool you need in your toy box. It has both standard size slide hammer threaded holes in it. You can use it for more than just pilot bearings when doing a clutch. I used it on my outboard engine when I rebuilt the foot. There’s a bearing inside about 10” inside that was only attainable with a tool like this. Worked great!!

Pro: Work perfectly to remove 2001 Silverado Front Diff axle shaft small needle/roller bearing and the small needle/roller bearings on both sides of case housing using OTC 5 lb 5/8 inch - 18 thread slide hammer.Con: SPECIAL NOTE: OTC needs to step up to the plate and include a simple note within the case stating that this will mount onto two different size shafts - a 3/4 inch shaft (approx.) and a 5/8 inch - 18 thread shaft. They do not tell the user that the 5/8 inch - 18 thread threads are at the bottom of the female mount and that the initial threads in the same female mount are 3/4 inch (approx.) I was in the process of returning mine thinking that I had one that was incorrectly assembled but discovered via other's review that the 5/8 inch - 18 threads were at the bottom of the female mount.NOW, the REAL PROBLEM with this concept OTC, is that a smaller slide hammer, such as your OTC 5028 1-1/2 lb. slide hammer, will not reach down into the 5/8 inch - 18 thread section of the female mount. The solution would be to either get rid of the larger 3/4 inch threading or include two different female shaft mounts for this OTC 4421 tool. Two separate female shaft mounts might be nice but I can tell you that with my 5/8 inch - 18 thread OTC 5 lb slide hammer that this configuration is clumsy to handle with such a small set of jaws at the business end of the tool, but the 5 lb. weight gets the job done quickly. I can only conclude that a slide hammer with a larger diameter slide shaft would be monstrous for these tiny jaws. Another consideration us that the OTC 2-1/2 lb slide hammer has the same 5/8 inch - 18 thread shaft but probably would not have been enough weight to remove my roller bearings mentioned above. Also, the OTC 2-1/2 lb. slide hammer's shaft is the same length as the 5 lb. slide hammer which is 24 inches long. So, even though you can use a hammer that weighs less it might not get the job done and is still the same overall length. As far as it not fitting onto the 1-1/2 lb. slide hammer I would like to add that I can foresee other uses for this OTC 4421 tool with a very light weight slide hammer but OTC has rendered it useless at this point unless they at least offer an adapter for additional thread length to reach the bottom of the female mount. This is a great price for the tool and it is built as good as that other expensive tool company out there. I would buy this tool again without hesitation but given what I have already used it for I doubt it will break and therefore will not have to worry about this purchase. It's worth every penny I paid for it and at this point you would have to use a pry bar to get it out of my hands!

Why do slide hammers use such hard-to-find threads? I don't want to spend $40 for a chunk of metal that slides on a rod. I couldn't tell you if the threads on this attachment are actually as listed, because I can't find a reasonably priced rod or bolt to thread in there. Instead, I simply welded a 1/2"-13 nut on top of this puller and used a long carriage bolt and a 2.5lb weight as a slide hammer. Works great!

I needed to pull some "inside" bronze bushing on my MG-TC. Although it has a rather large "female" fitting to attach it to a "slide-hammer"; I solved the problem by going to my local vendor of "nuts & bolts" and buying the correct size of bolt to fit the "female" fitting. I then drilled a hole into the head of the bolt and threaded it to fit the male end of my slide-hammer. Once assembled, I inserted it into the axle housing and used an "open-ended wrench to tighten down the center bolt to spread the two "ears"; then using the attached "slide-hammer" I was able to remove the "inside" bronze bushings.
