Press Pen Tips
The UHMW stop has a counter sunk hole drilled in the center to comfortably accept most any pen tip. Once aligned, pressing the pen tip is quick, smooth and easy.
Press Clips and Caps
Using the dowel to hole the pen barrel in place, pressing the clip and the cap on at the same time is a breeze.
Press Pen Mechanisms
When you need to press your pen mechanism into the bottom pen barrel, you need to be sure you press it into the proper depth and no further. The pen press makes achieving the perfect touch easy once you get the hang of it!
Smooth, Easy Operation...
This pen press is simplistic in design but functions exactly as it was meant to do. When pressing your pens, you don't want any sort of sudden or jerky movements. Our pen press provides you with an easy way of assembling your pens. The press operates very smoothly and allows you to place précised amounts of pressure on you pen parts as needed. This come in especially handy when pressing the pen mechanism into place. The mechanism can only go in so far and unlike the tip, cap and clip, there is no physical stopping point. All there is, is a groove around the mechanism tube. The press allows you to slowly press the mechanism right into place without pushing it in past the mark.
Included dowels to Keep Barrel Upright
Two wooden dowels are included. The dowels fit right into the predrilled hole on the UHMW pressure stop. Each dowel will protrude outward from the stop in order to hold the barrel in a horizontal position. This is a big help when pressing the cap and clip into the barrel.

The Pen Press is an absolute pen turning necessity that every wood turner should have. It not only helps assemble your pens, but it does it in a manner designed to be delicate with your pens. This pen press will exert up to and about 30 pounds of pressure which is more than enough to press properly turned and aligned pens. If you pen is not properly aligned, we recommend making any necessary adjustments to make it align properly before using the pen press.

I have been using clamps to assemble pens up until now, but had to mass produce a bunch of them so I splurged on this.What a difference it makes! It has made pen assembly much easier and more precise. Saves about 5 minutes per pen, but with several dozen pens, that is significant. Highly recommend.

Update 2: got a replacement part on the way. Maybe I was too forceful with the first one. Will update later on the new pieceUpdate November 2022: press is bent and useless nowPrior to using this press I was using an F clamp. It had a wobbly end on one side and a rubber end on the other. It barely got the job done and it made the assembly process very trickyThis press however makes it a breeze. I recommend assembling the pen tip first, then the twist device followed by the collar. Then remove that part and assemble the top of the pen separately. The dowels make this super easy. Once done, combine both parts into a pen.

I'm in the process of helping our woodturner group make 1,000 pens for the vets. Unfortunately for me, i can't do anything halfway... so I've been making a LOT of pens =) my hands can't handle all the clamping I was doing with my adjustable shop clamp so I decided to make my life easier.Especially important to me is the control I have while inserting the twist mechanism into the front tube.Using my old way of assembly, I had to go VERY slowly and make sure it was set JUST perfectly... just proud of the notch in the twist mechanism. My hands would start hurting after just two of these a day. (yep! I'm a wimp)This assembly jig is AMAZING!!! the extender rod on the clamp makes it not only very easy to push things together but incredibly easy to judge exactly where to stop while inserting this twist mechanism!

I saw a similar product at a wood shop for $89+ and it was basically the same as this. I ordered on a Wed and was scheduled to get it the next Tuesday but it arrived by Friday, 2 day delivery, fantastic! It was easy to assemble and the directions were very clear and informative. *updated to 3 stars - the pen press worked great for the first 30 or so pens. But, my wife ran into a couple of transmissions that didn't line up well, and she had to use more force to get them in than the previous ones. The pole that the metal bar is attached too bent, and the brackets holding it down also bent and the arm no longer made a full swing. Ultimately, this product was good for putting together pens that are in perfect alignment, but if there is any kind of misalignment or friction in the tube, the press wasn't able to handle the force.

Nothing fancy but I've been using this model for over 5 years (I needed a second press) and it works great. A little bit hard on the end of the barrel when pressing fragile closed end pens (use padding) but it's cheap, simple and works great.
