Bird’s eye maple is one of my favorite species of wood to use when turning pens. Easy to turn and takes a dazzling finish!

I purchased the Birdseye Maple from Wood-Ever. The listing is for 9 blanks but I received 10. Unfortunately 5 of the blanks were discolored/water damaged. They were not a clean blonde color but had a full length grey tinge. It was deep enough into the blank that it wouldn't be carved away during turning. The other 5 are clean and have obvious birdseye and grain. All the blanks were straight and relatively square.

I've turned several pens using this along with a chrome finish on the kit and they've turned out amazing. I love the contrast between the chrome and the dark wood. I gave a pen to the Dr. that did my knee surgery three weeks ago after asking my wife to pick one from the five I showed her. . She chose this one !
