What an amazing head for that authentic jazz and orchestral sounds.

I've tried many different heads for Jazz brush playing but the Skyntone Diplomat has proven to be the brightest sounding with the best sweep and sharpest slap sounds that I have found to date. I was using a diplomat fiberskyn prior but to my ear the Skyntone sounds more alive and less dampened.

Very surprised, this head is tougher than I anticipated! Not for the Hevy duty rock knockers. Finesse players definitely need to give this beauty a go. Very sweet & sexy sounding drum head. 😇👿😎. Great for Jazz & Blues

I bought this to use it on one of my snare drums. I wanted to have a coarse drum head to use with my rods and brushes. I have to say it does the job. You can hear the brushes scrape along the head and still make a nice sound. The rods sound good too. I have used my 7A sticks and they are ok; but I rather use just the brushes/rods for a softer touch.

For those interested in the weight/thickness, it measures at 8mil. Which is very slightly heavier than a diplomat. However, the material seems very durable as I just completed 9 shows over the course of 3 days without any signs of wear. I primarily play with sticks at medium to medium-high tuning and for larger outdoor venues, this head really cuts. It is slightly darker sounding than a coated amb/texture coated/vintage coated but has a mighty fine crack and good articulation. Currently using on a Gretsch Broadkaster series, 3-ply snare with a Permatone reso head and Puresound wires. Still getting used to the feel but it sounds fantastic. If you are looking for a more classic 50's and earlier sound, look no further. Also, don't be afraid to lay into them as well...they sound great at all volumes and can take it!

Amazing head for brush work!! Consistant sound on sweeps and presses. You can also crank this head and achieve great sensitivity. I currently have it on a 5.5" pearl free floating snare with maple insert.

I'm using this on a DW Collectors snare (6.5x14) with a Remo Ambassador resonant-side head. The Skyntone head gives a calf-like sound with it's dark overtones prominent. Attack and articulation is a bit diminished, making for a more classic "jazz" sound on calf heads. The coating is also well created with a nice smooth surface with just enough coating to create friction and not sound like you're playing on plastic heads.

Over the years my drum kits have used Remo and other brands. I always return to Remo. Heard the Skyntones on a friends kit, loved the sound and now my drums have Skyntones all around. These heads are ideal for jazz and blues but can handle anything else you throw at them. Although not made to hit hard they can still be used for rock situations. The tonal quality and the ability to tune high or low really give these heads the 5 star rating. The sound is so good it makes you want to practice even more!
