The railing tubing itself is sturdy but the spring loaded screw that allows you to lift it and and move to an open and closed position has absolutely no rigidity or pulling force factor. If you grab onto this railing with the slightest bit of force whether going up or down the stairs it pulls away from the mounting brackets which causes your body to commit to a sudden perking movement you are not prepared for. Falling down face forward from the height of a camper door could cause serious physical injury...

I returned this item because it was cheap and not well made. It was frankly dangerous. I was outside my return window but Amazon was kind enough to make an exception and give me a full refund.

1. This product is ok to use for balance when climbing stairs. At 175 lbs, if I stumble and grab this handrail, I fear it would break.2. The finish is only fair quality. Mine has dried paint drips, thin (faded) paint spots and a couple small paint chips.This handrail is ok for my intended use of it but I would not buy again. It was easy to instal.
