Contestant going bad. On my 3rd one now and I just gave up and got one of those countertop ice makers. At least if it goes bad I can chuck it and not have to take my freezer apart again. Mounting screws are a pain to get too.

It was easy to install and It dumped a load of ice in about an hour. I threw away all the ice it madeovernight and started fresh the next morning.

This part fit our refrigerator as advertised. The install directions were difficult to follow but a google search helped just fine.The part works fine, but within 3 months the coating on the individual ice trays is peeling off and getting embedded in the ice. Gross. It’ll need to be replaced sooner rather than later.

This icemaker was a perfect drop-in replacement for the stock unit. It took about 15 minutes to replace after we got the old one out - and that only took longer than it should have due to the ice buildup holding it in place. Overall, about an hour to remove and replace. The coating on the ice tray is very even and holding up well after about 2 months of use.

This part is not an exact replacement for a Whirlpool GS6NVEXSL (for which the OEM part number is 2198597). The ice tray has a light white coating that looks more decorative than durable. The assembly did not come with the correct number of screws to mount it in the original chassis. I was unable to use the screws from my old assembly because the holes on the new one were too big and didn't have any threads (which is an indicator). Once I dug around in the tool box for some self-tapping screws, the rest of the installation was easy and everything fit. By end of day, nothing, nada, no ice. The instructions say that it can take 24 hours for the motor to "wake up" after the temperature of the unit drops to 10 degrees or lower. OK, so I checked the temperature and waited 3 days and this thing not only didn't wake up, it's comatose. I'm done. Returning and bought some manual ice cube trays. Maybe I'll order an OEM part once they're available again.

Both the Ice making tray and the laser sensor needed to be replaced. After determining the parts I would need, I ordered the sensor and a replacement ice-making unit. They came almost immediately, substantially before the predicted date. I transferred the attachments for transverse mounting to the new unit. It turned out the most time consuming part of the repair was disconnecting and reconnecting the power plugs owing to the locking mechanisms on each plug and the short cords. The instructions said it might take up to 24 hours to begin making ice. By that time our ice bin was almost full again! Plus, the whole replacement unit cost less than half of the ice tray alone if I had decided to replace only the defective part of my original ice maker.

This ice maker fit perfectly into my freezer, hookup was easy, and it works great. The hardest part was the contortions you have to go through to remove/reinstall the units in the bottom freezer of my fridge. Overall very happy, no complaints at all.
