This is a nice solid top parlor for the money. Takamine g series get a bad rap in the forums for being cheap Chinese guitars, but I have to say mine is really beautiful. The forums also say that the higher end g series guitars are great workhorses. With some people getting poorly set up ones I am an advocate of trying it out before you buy it if you can. It's much smaller than my Martin or Taylor, but can easily hang in a jam session with either one unplugged. And the appointments are nifty as well, maple binding along the entire body and neck and the rosewood / maple 3 piece back is simply beautiful. The tuners were a disappointment and one did break so they were all replaced, but it did work perfectly for 3 years before it gave out so that was fine. The neck also feels a little cheap, it's beautiful in appearance, just feels a little hollow, when you tap the guitar neck, the body Rings out a little. But on my Martin and Taylor that doesn't happen. Still, for under $500 and half the price of the other two, it's not a bad guitar at all and I guess the only other thing I wish it had, was all solid back and sides. But than I guess the price would be higher.

This is not a travel guitar with a short neck. Rather it has a smaller body, more like a classical guitar, but with a full size neck. For playing in an apartment, it is perfect, just don't expect the bass to sound like a dreadnaught. This is made by Takamine in China, so is not in the same league as their Japan made guitars which cost much more. The body fits with comfort given its size and is a nice instrument for the price.
