Chasing Hammer and Bench Block

Known for embossing, this hammer creates a style in which metal is shaped by hammering for the front side of a piece of metal, creating and smoothing dents. The two-sided steel head gives you options for doming or creating bows in metal, forming unique patterns and replications. Embossing tools will stretch your metal, allowing you to manipulate most softer metals, such as pewter, sterling silver, aluminum, brass, copper, and nickel silver. Use in conjunction with repousse hammers to form indents and scallops from the back side of metal, forming even more unique designs. The lightweight wood handle is easy to grip and works in partnership with the weighted head, which is easy to control. To protect your work bench and other surface, it’s best to work on bench blocks. Chasing
Chasing is a technique in which the piece is hammered on the front side, sinking the metal using chasing tools and the chasing hammer.
Finishing & Hardening
Add finish to edges of cut blanks or harden and flatten wire so it keeps it shape for jewelry and decoration.
Texturing
Use the ball peen side of the chasing hammer to add some texture or dimples to your metal or hardened wire.
Easily identified by its uniquely shaped handle: rounded and larger at one end and thin where the head is attached. The “springy” handle increases hammer control and reduces hand fatigue.

This small chase is a good tool for simple jewelry applications. I deducted one star for poor packaging. The first shipment arrived with a torn package and no stainless platform. I received a rapid replacement but that also had a torn palate and the stainless was loose in the shipping box!

So I guess if you're into rustic scratched beat up whatever you're working on this is the right purchase for you. There are scratches in the block and then sendings in the block right out of the package. After first use copper wire at 20 gauge to 16 gauge dented the steel surface and scuffed it further. The mallet is flat it seemed to be okay at first glance until use. After it's first use again only working 20 to 16 gauge copper wire. It received scuff sendings as well. Very quickly it started scuffing and scratching my copper wire that I was trying to work on. Not ideal when I'm working on something that's supposed to be clean and elegant. Maybe I will use as a rivet setter and a forming block for leather working. But definitely not of any use for what I bought it for which was copper wire working. Just keep that in mind. You get what you pay for. This is a cheaper set. It will work for a lot of things, but it's not going to be top of the line and definitely going to scuff up whatever you're working on if it's delicate.

"False advertising". They claim that the chasing hammer has a"DOMED" face... "Flat out lie!!!! It is FLAT!!!

Very poor quality. I immediately returned it as it was all chipped and would completely mar the jewelry wire it is supposed to be a tool for.

I like the packaging. I can store this in its resealable package - front plastic flaps wrap around about a1/2” over cardboard back.Block is tiny. I looked for one about 4” square with a punch hole and couldn’t find one.Hammer is about 8-1/2” long, much shorter than carpentry hammers.If you keep it packaged to store, package measures3-1/2” across, 11” long, 1-1/2” thick.The hole in the block you could also use to put in a string loop so you could hang it up, and remove string when hole punching in leather or metal.But you might want to keep the block protected so it stays in good condition.
