Works great, the coil is tight and will stay in place.

My 5th wheel came with an emergency breakaway system but the cable that ran from the box was just a straight twisted steel wire that was 4 foot. When we would travel, that cable was just flopping around in the back due to the wind and even though I know it takes a pretty substantial amount of force to pull these out, I was afraid that with all the flopping around that it was going to potentially slowly start pulling the pin out and cause the trailer brakes to suddenly slam on. It also has no flexibility at all, so the second you turn too hard it could potentially pull right out when you don't want it to. I got this and it fit perfectly and now my cable is taught with zero flapping and when it's completely stretched out it is exactly the length we needed. I'm still considering going to a 6 foot cable just for peace of mind for when I may have to make a u-turn or something to ensure I don't brake out!! But for now, this one was perfect for our last 200 mile trip with the 5er!

Ditch your kinky greasy cable and move up to the more sensible curly spring breakaway pin. I've been using this style on our fifth-wheels for ages and I'll never go back to the other style. In fairness, I never used this style on our older bumper-pull trailer and can't swear that this is long enough, but you can measure for yourself. These are perfect for our 5ers though.Climbing up onto my rear wheel to connect the safety pin and breakaway cable to our hitch isn't always easy, especially if I forgot to set the cable up on the hitch before hooking up. But with this type cable I can reach over and bat the cable with my paw and it will bounce over towards me so I can grab it without having to climb down for a do-over.
