About this item

  • A passive radiator system uses the sound otherwise trapped in the enclosure to excite a resonance that makes it easier for the speaker system to create the deepest pitches
  • Bass radiator, also known as a "drone cone", for replacing the inverted tube or subwoofer with the radiator and the traditional back subwoofer.
  • Air turbulence noise is no longer an issue, when air rapidly escapes the pipe at high volumes. No more high frequencies reflected out the port.
  • Passive radiators operate in conjunction with the active driver at low frequencies, sharing the acoustic load and reduce the excursion of the driver.
  • Working similarly to a vent, the passive radiator will only add as much as they subtract.

Long story short. My work truck is company owned, I bring the truck home everyday but it’s not mine. I’m in the truck quite a bit driving to different job sites, and I need my music. I wanted really good bass output, but had to be discreet about it. Never built a passive radiator build before, so thought I’d give it a shot and run a small active driver. And this sounds great as a passive. Im sure you could take your time and make it look a lot nicer then I did for this quick build. But I’m very happy with this build, maybe I’ll rebuild it to look pretty. But the functionality of this passive driver is incredible considering it doesn’t have a basket or anything.

When I received the radiator, the center had almost completely come apart from the rubber surround. I didn’t expect much for $12, but I also didn’t expect to have to repair it before I even installed it. Lame. Also, there’s no solid mounting ring. It’s just flappy rubber you have to glue to your enclosure medium. Again, lame.
