I purchased this pickup for a bass I was refinishing. I completed that work and let it sit over the winter. Now I am putting the bass together and this pickup that was going into the bridge position isn't reading anything. Obviously the window for a return was long closed so there is nothing I can do about a return. I pulled the cover off and tested the wires thinking maybe it is a bad wire. Its something within the winding itself and that is totally sealed so there is nothing that can be done with it. The pickup is junk and can't be used.Sad as it was being matched to a set of Wilkinson Precision's that fit into the bridge position. I will probably take a chance and buy another as it's not big money. I need a pickup and now I am stuck looking for solutions.I had posted what is above a couple days ago. This is not a big money expense. Amazon is amazing when it comes to making good on things that are not what they are advertised etc. so this isn't making me feel bad at all. Since this was something I was going to toss in the trash I decided to see if I can find out what is wrong with the pickup. I got out a headset magnifying glass thing and set it to the highest value then carefully looked at the pickup wires. I could see the wire coming from the pickup winding (which is immersed in wax potting material) barely at the point of solder location. I got out the soldering iron and carefully heated the joint and removed the solder. I then could see the wire had either broke off or wasn't in the joint. I tried fixing that but the bobbin is made of plastic and heat from the soldering iron (even though I was careful) began to melt the fixture point. So I may be able to solder a wire onto the end of the wire and set the pickup back into the cover then use hot melt glue to fixture it into place so it can't be moved. I will however order another as I like the Wilkinson products. So all is well with this even though its not working as expected.

They have a great sound but the magnet fell out of the housing so I had to add some super glue to attach it. I'd still recommend these! Very affordable upgrade!

The 1999 MIM fender jazz bass has a weird issue where there are 2 bridge pickups used for the neck and the bridge (same size, same pole piece location, same wind, same polarity). The Wilkinson pickups I received cured all the problems and sound great!I’m my case The neck pickup is south polarity, the bridge is north polarity. When I wired them up normally the humbuxking works perfect. I also shielded everything correctly which also helps with the noise. The pickups are quiet when the volume is even. The 1999 MIM jazz bass uses 2 bridge pickups that are slightly smaller…like a 16th of an inch smaller.I cut the plastic cover on the BRIDGE pickup down like 10mm from the top with my fret saw, I’m sure a razor blade would work (see the picture with the Razor knife). It is way easier than chiseling the body… just trim the pick up cover.I just ordered a normal pick guard and the neck pickup fit fine. With the 1999 MIM jazz bass you need to fill in the 2 lower holes and re drill new holes for the NECK pickup. The E and A holes are in the right place, but the D and G holes need to be filled and re drilled. I used super glue and tooth pick but wood glue would work. You could do saw dust and wood glue or super glue as well.A new pick guard and The neck PUP needs 2 holes relocated; the bridge PUP needs the cover trimmed. With that you get humbucking Pickups, with properly aligned pole pieces and you fix one of the dumbest things I’ve ever come across from a factory bass. It’s an easy upgrade and the reward is big! I wouldn’t do it if your not comfortable with soldering irons and a have a basic understanding of musical instruments and electronics. The sound is killer! It sounds like a jazz bass!

Overall for the price they work great. The output was lower than I had expected. But the tone is a welcomed upgrade from what was in my jazz before

Product arrived on time and works well. I am not an expert on tone and the cover was not glued but a good product.

This pickup sounds very good for the cost. The “Var-gauss” feature, however, causes a problem. They use two different magnet strengths, one for the E and A strings and another for the D and G strings. This causes a volume difference in the strings that can’t be evened out by adjusting the pickup height. I suppose you could reduce the difference with some compression, but I didn’t try.I fixed the problem by replacing the stock ceramic magnets with a couple of neodymium magnets removed from old hard drives. The pickup sounds great now.
