Your cart is empty. The heartwood of Gaboon ebony (Diospyros spp.) is usually jet black, with little to no variation or visible grain. Occasionally dark brown or grayish-brown streaks may be present. Can be difficult to work due to its extremely high density. Has a dulling effect on cutters. Tear-out may occur on pieces that have interlocked or irregular grain. Takes finishes well, and finishes to a high luster. Ebony is commonly used for small ornamental purposes, such as piano keys, musical instrument parts, pool cues, carvings. Great for knobs, pulls, inlays and accents in cabinetry. Somewhat difficult to machine, but worth the reward. Excellent turning wood. Africa.

The wood itself is pretty nice, mine had nice straight grain. I had to subtract a star because it did have a hairline crack about a half inch deep along one edge, and subtracted another star because it came thickly coated with wax, which is a pain to remove and gums up my tools.

I’m torn on this one. While the wood is nice it was sent with the corners beveled. For my use this requires me to cut the bevels off. Essentially loosing about 3/16” to 1/4” of material. If you plan on turning this piece you would be fine. I however am not turning it so it’s just a loss of material.
