Your cart is empty. Purpleheart (Peltogyne spp). Central and South America. Medium to hardwood with tight, fairly straight grain and moderate to coarse texture. Bright purple when cut, it darkens to a deep purplish brown. Purpleheart is a very strong wood and machines well with sharp tools. Boards are surfaced four sides.

Beautiful wood, some boards are slightly warped but that can be worked around with the project I'm using them for.

I am almost convinced that one of the boards I received was not actually purpleheart. The color of the wood did not change when cut or when left outside. Unfortunately after making a cutting board I do this process so now the 3 cutting boards I have made valued at about 180 bucks are now garbage. When cut, purpleheart turns brown. Leaving it exposed to oxygen, heat, sunlight will turn the wood back to its original purple hue. When turning pens I use a blow torch to achieve the purple color. I even took a blowtorch to a piece of the board I got and it did not change color nor did it ooze resin from the grain. I’m a huge fan of Purple Heart and my customers love it. I have plenty of experience with purpleheart and have never seen this happen. However there are many trees that do indeed have a Purple hue for its heart wood. This does not make it purpleheart. Overall I have lost time and money purchasing from this company and will not under any circumstances buy from them again.

I ordered a few of these and they were all good except one. The one had bug holes, a faded color, and was worped. It wasn't useable but the others were all perfect. Going to make my wife a nice jewelry box.
