This doesn't fit the slot on my Jazz Bass. The nut is too thick front to back and because it is metal it doesn't sand or file easily. Unfortunately my original nut broke during removal and now I HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER NUT. This time I'll buy tusq or bone as I should've the first time.

Not only are the slots not sized correctly the nut is angled from 1st to 4th string and is way too short for most basses.

I mostly build guitars, but have played a LOT more bass than guitar. I'll put this on my next 4 string build. The nut is nicely formed and is smooth. I have to double check the notches for size, but by eyeballing it they seem good. I can't wait to get started on a bass project.
