White plastic: Highly recommend! This is my go-to mute every time, whether indoors or outdoors, bc of the "edginess" it adds; sort of deepens or rounds out the inferior "obviously electric and not-acoustic/less resonant" sound of my electric violin. Seems to layer a "fiddle" or "traditional folk" style quality to whatever you're playing, if that makes sense. Caution: one of the 2 that i purchased a while back seems to be cracking, though, so I have just ordered again (plus, I tend to misplace them, oops)

Doesn’t fit description, I’m first chair viola and i usually like practicing, wanted to be able to practice at night so I bought this. This piece of poorly made garbage doesn’t even come close to fitting, even though it’s a violin/viola mute. If I could rate negative stars, I would

11 year old plays the viola and this saves our Doberman some heartache and earaches. It mutes it enough that it is not so loud, but it is loud enough that my son can hear himself when he practices. It is a good in purchase. He had a metal mute, but lost it. The rubber is not as expensive and does the job almost as well. For a child, that may loose it, its perfect.

This mute is exceptionally good. It doesn't silence your instrument, of course, but it makes it quieter for late night practice and apartments. Also, my viola sounds much nicer with this on it.

Works great. Doesn't make your violin/viola silent of course, but it does take the volume down a few notches. It fits on the bridge perfectly without excessive force and without marring the surface. Holds just tight enough to not slip off while playing, and still easy to remove. Unlike some other bridge mutes I tried, which will break your bridge bc they are just too tight and won't actually fit over it.Love it.

This neat little mute is also great for Banjos for use in Church's and other events requiring less volume. Love it!!
