Product Description

NEON Multi-Color bass guitar strings with K3 Technology. The K3 coating is the first coating that players report, "sound as good or better than uncoated strings." DR's remarkable and proprietary K3 Technology coating is the first coating that makes no apologies and no excuses for not delivering sound equal to uncoated strings. Players tell us that these strings have more volume, less unwanted overtones, greater clarity and articulation than standard, uncoated strings. Yet, they provide the same protection due to corrosion and perspiration as well as increased tone life that coated strings are known for.

Bought this to try out the sound difference from my flats and didn’t really love the very huge gap in definition. That said, as a set, they’re wonderful if EQed equally. Low tensioned, deep rumbles, pretty to look at.Get this if you’re into pretty strings that go boom.

Amazon shredded my first review because I had a video of me playing these that showed my face, so now you get the shorter version. They sound really good. I like the tone. The B string was the only one that gave me issues, a weird twang. They glow massively with UV. The pictures in the bedroom are taken with a blacklight nearby. The photo of the robot (definitely not me) playing are taken with a blue LED fixture hitting them

These strings are incredibly bright (visually) and on a white bass, really make an impression. I'm not a bass/string expert but I find these strings OK.I bought these strings as the first set for my first 6 string because I thought perhaps the colors would subconsciously help me put the tonal quality to each string and help me internalize the fretboard. I don't think it's done anything like that for me, in fact sometimes I wish the strings weren't different colors, but it hasn't been a real detriment. As for feel, the strings feel "softer" from the coating, which is not a bad thing. Another nice thing about the coating is that the strings don't feel so cold on those colder days you want to pick up your instrument. As for sound, the strings are a more mellow (less bright) with the coating than with your traditional strings. It's not so much such that it's a handicap on certain styles like slap or tapping, but it's great if you like to play with a mellow tone.As for durability, the DR website says that the coating will wear off (but not chip, flake) from use with a pick. This is probably more tuned to guitarists, rather than bassists - and if you are a pick bass player, these strings are probably too mellow for the sound you'd want to get with a pick. The coating shows some wear at the frets after bending, but doesn't really show except on the thinnest strings (since they roll when you bend). I play fingerstyle mostly, and, aside from the wear from bending, the strings are still stunning.I still would like to try other brands to test my tone, but I definitely wouldn't mind getting another DR neon set, just perhaps all one color.
