Bought this for my parents when they moved to assisted living. Their home always had a fireplace and wood stove. Although their apartment is warm, they missed the ambiance and the extra heat in the mornings. They really enjoy this little stove. Every morning they turn it on, and at night they put the flames on for ambiance. It is a great little unit and they are very happy with it.

First thing you should do is open up the back and unplug the red and blue lights- it's easy to do and makes the fire light look WAY better (and not like a rave).So with that mod it looks really good (on and off), but I'm giving 3 stars because the temperature shut off is very inconsistent. You can keep the dial at the same exact spot, and it will turn off at very different room temperatures.I think it has trouble because the heat comes out the bottom and must heat up wherever the temperature sensor is.

I do like this heater. It's cute, adds a nice quaint touch to my cottage-like home. It does put out a decent amount of heat, and like many have said, you gotta give the thing time to do what it needs to do. It will not instantly heat your space, it takes some time. And yes, there is a fan sound. I personally don't mind it, it's kind of white noise for me, but it is something to consider.I bought it for the aesthetics over other heaters. While I actually do like the colors it is casting now, just kind of dark red and kind of purple/blue, the full flame spectrum it had, is now gone. I see that there are instructions for handling that, like, ways to fix or replace, but I just have to say, it's kind of a bummer these days that at this price point, it wont get you something reliable for even a year. And I hadn't been using it for a few months of that year during the warm part of the year. So make of that what you will.

The fireplace effect has stopped working. Probably just needs a new bulb, but after just over three months of use, not being used all the time?When heat is turned on with lower element, blows coolish air. With high element still gives off heat.Have been heating with a quartz heater instead, cost $24.99 on sale and is doing a better job.This heater was a disappointment.

Had a cheaper electric fire place before in my dinning room, after a few months it became noisy and didn't quite do the job even on full heat. The Duraflame will heat my open dinning room even on low setting. The infrared quartz heat is very enjoyable, soothing and quiet. Very glad I made this purchase! You will need a 6" Phillips screw driver to put the legs on. If you don't have one, order one. After that you will enjoy this, garrateed!
