Most people think these chrome covers that Leo Fender originally installed on the first Electric Basses were just for looks...Actually besides adding more shielding from electrical interference, this cover shaped the tone ever so slightly...I use a String Mute underneath (see photo) that provides a less treble, more retro tone.

Very easy to install using two extra pick guard screws, purchased separately. This cover does not come with installation screws. I carefully placed and located this on my base and marked the screw hole locations with a sharpie with little dots. Then I pre-drilled holes for the pick guard screws using a tiny drill bit. Installation was a cinch and now I think my base looks much nicer. Check out the before and after pics and see if you agree. I didn't like having the exposed bridge and saddle network collecting dust.

This is the real Fender Precision bridge cover, made in USA, verified by part number and UPC code. I looked it up because it didn't come in the usual Fender-marked packaging. If you want the factory correct part, this is it.

Bought this to cover up the piece of foam jammed under my strings at the bridge. Looks great and does the job. It doesn’t come with screws. Pick guard screws work great, and you will have to drill pilots.

For reference I installed this on a Squier Jaguar short scale bass. Arrived in a plain sealed plastic bag, not a Fender package. The back of the holes were flat and smooth, not burred. Regular pick guard screws work just fine. Fit perfect. Just center it using the strings as a centering guide, butt it up against the bridge and then move it back slightly so it doesn't touch the bridge and then mark your holes.I drilled small 1/16" pilot holes clean but when I installed the screws I could see some small finish chipping around the holes. So be aware of that. It might be the cheaper finish of the Squier but I don't care. it can't be seen with the cover on. And if one is going to drill holes in a bass body then one should expect it. I also added a strip of foam weather stripping under the cover like Fender used to do to get that vintage thumpy muted sound.

J'ai acheter ce cache chevalet pour une basse jaguar fender, et vraiment le rendu est Topissime, le rendu et vraiment top, c'est un super produit qui donne un petit coté retro blues.

I bought this to dress up the tail on a Squier short-scale Jaguar bass (a great instrument for the money, by the way). This cover does a great job; the chrome is thick and lustrous, and the fit is perfect. The only bad part is that it comes without screws! You would think that they'd give you two measly chrome screws to install the thing. It made me go and buy a bag of Fender pickguard screws ($4.29 for 24), so now I have plenty of extras.
