Ludwigia repens, or Water Primrose, is a beautiful freshwater aquarium plant that originates from the tropical North and Central American waters. It is an amphibious plant that will grow either partially or fully submersed. In its fully submersed form, its spade-shaped leaves range in color from dark green to brownish-red. The top of the leaves are typically olive green in color, whereas the undersides are reddish-brown to deep red. The vibrancy of this plant depends greatly on the amount of light it receives. When poorly illuminated, the colors will fade. The Ludwigia repens makes a good mid-ground plant in the average aquarium, or even placed as a background in the smaller aquarium. They do require a high light intensity of 3 to 5 watts per gallon of full spectrum (5000-7000K) light. This plant does prefer a nuetral pH and moderately soft water, and will accept a wide temperature range. Reproduction occurs during the warm season when the plant is fully mature. At this time, it will develop small, vibrant yellow flowers above the water's surface. Shortly thereafter, seeds will develope and drop to the substrate, where they will begin to grow into a new plant. To propogate the Ludwigia repens, simply cut branches or the top of the plant, and plant the stem into the substrate. Be sure to remove the leaves from the last node on the bottom of the stem to insure proper root growth. The Ludwigia repens benefits from regular addtions of CO2, iron rich fertilizers, and trace elements. Approximate Shipping Size: Bare Root. 6" to 8"

I didn't have a single snail until I bought these plants and now I can't get rid of them! They multiply by the dozens each day! The plants grow great but not worth the snail infestation!

The original order came in with some plants in bad shape. I reached out to let them know and they sent me new plants right away. Plants looking good in the tank so far. I appreciate the care they gave me.

While these plants did arrive looking healthy and beautiful they were only clippings without roots. If you get plants that are grown underwater there is no issue in floating them to get roots to grow in order to plant them. However, if the plants are grown in air they go through a melt down where they lose all leaves and regrow new ones that are functional to water growth. If your plant melts down before the new roots grow you end up with dead stems because nothing is left to bring nutrients to the plant. That is exactly what happened with mine. The stems ended up rotting in the tank before new leaves or roots grew. It was a wasted effort simply because the seller did not ensure roots where present or the plant was grown submersed pre clipping.

Edit to add- Aug 16, 2021. This plant continues to thrive and I've been successful planting several cuttings from the original. Although I have LED lights they are not on timers and I don't use CO2 augmentation the color is a wonderful bright red. I continue to be very pleased with this plant as well as another I bought from this seller. This cutting arrived a few days ago with another plant ordered from the same seller, a Java Fern. Although the arrived simply in a sealed plastic bag in a sealed box without any other protections they are great and now growing very nicely in my small tank. The Ludwigia is pinking up although I had not anticipated this effect without added CO2 but I do have decent lights. Both plants are very healthy without brown spots. There were a few leaves that fell off, as to be expected, but I'm already seeing new growth! Excellent!

My tropical fish love this. Some of it I planted in a Oui yogurt glass dish with soil covered in gravel then buried in the gravel on the bottom of the tank. It’s thriving and looks way better than my plastic plants. I also let some of this plant float on the surface. My smaller gouramis love that!!! They “sleep” together entwines within this plant. $12.50 may seem pricey but the plant stays alive under water and is beneficiaries for the tank water. I just bought purchased my third order.

This is my favorite plant! It's beautiful in my aquarium, and my angelfish like to swim through it. They arrived quickly and in great shape. None of the stems had died. Some had broken into two or three pieces though. I just put them all in the substrate and every one of them is growing. I've got plants in various sizes now. It is slow rooting plant, however it seems pretty hardy to me. After a week, they began to develop the red color. After a few weeks, it has really started to take off. Every stem has at least 3 new branches growing off of them. I've seen quite a bit of roots growing on the stems lately as well. I'd definitely put this plant in any future aquariums I may set up.

It was very pretty when it came in, but died very quickly. Nothing else in my tank has died, so I think there was some kind of disease in the plants I received. The stems started to turn black and worked their way up the plant over time. I finally pulled it a week ago.
