AFTER PURCHASING/SETTING UP/CONFIGURING ON MY NETWORK, I FIND OUT THAT THIS IS NOT A TRUE NETWORK SCANNER, MEANING THAT IN ORDER TO USE AT A DIFFERENT COMPUTER THAT IS ON YOUR NETWORK, YOU MUST FIRST EXIT THE SCANNER PROGRAM AND THE SCANNER IN THE SYSTEM TRAY. THIS IS A HASSLE AND NOT FOR THE NOT SO COMPUTER SAVY. I RETURNED THIS UNIT AND GOT THE FI-7300NX (FUJITSU RECOMMENDED). FUJITSU HAS EXCELLENT CUSTOMER/TECHNICAL SERVICE. I MEAN, EVEN AFTER HAVING THEIR SCANNER FOR OVER 10 YEARS, THEY STILL GAVE TECHNICAL SERVICE WITHOUT GOING INTO MY POCKETBOOK!!

Set this scanner up for a client that wanted simple scan to network functionality (SMB share). I am an IT professional of 25+ years and I wanted to throw this thing out the window. There is no embedded ANYTHING. It's a dumb scanner and you either have to load software on a desktop and tell it what to do with scans, or you have to go through a 15 minute (sped up video) explaining how to setup IIS and like 5 different programs to run on a SERVER (not workstation). Even after all of this, I was still unable to get the Jobs to run by simply pressing a button on the screen. For the price tag, this thing should be running Windows Server 2012 R2 ITSELF. not relying on an IIS webserver to simply provide a web interface to scan to network. WORST SCANNER OF 25 years in IT.

I bought this scanner believing it can do simple network shared folder scanning via a wired or wireless network. IT CAN NOT. You must use their software and it must be running at all times for the scanner to work. Our old school Canon scanner was able to accomplish this job. Do not buy!

Instead of having a simple 'scan to network' function on the device, you are forced to use their Button Manager and Paperstream Capture programs on a network computer. Which I could live with if they worked, but after a reboot, the software will not automatically reconnect until you edit the scan profile and search for the scanner.GIGANTIC pain in the rear, do yourself a favor and spend the bucks for a device that has 'scan to network' built into the device itself, rather than be forced to use the crappy software.

This could be a nice scanner, but the setup is very confusing and the features are VERY limited. It can be setup to scan over the network (or USB) to a PC similar to the other ScanSnap products and uses the software on the PC to save the PDF to a file or whatever you want to do with it.If you want to use it with special buttons on the touch screen as pictured and/or without tying it to a workstation, they offer the PaperPort NX Manager which is a bloated utility that can be installed on a server (along with SQL, etc). Then, you can attach the scanner and setup custom buttons that will appear on the touch screen. Note: This is STILL not a standalone network scanner as it requires a ton of software to be running on a server to work.WORST OF ALL: Even after performing a TON of work setting up the PaperPort NX Manager on a server and then configuring the scanner, you can save to a PDF - BUT IT DOES NOT SUPPORT SCANNING / SAVING TO A SEARCHABLE PDF. Sorry, but that makes it virtually useless.

Have been buying Fujitsu scanners for years for my office and the fi line has always performed as good as can be hoped for. If you get this and use it together with the Paperstream IP (Fujitsu's VRS software), you will rarely have to redo scans. I like to scan at 400 dpi as I find it gives nice crisp documents, whereas 300 dpi only gives documents that while readable on the screen without difficulty lack that crispness (I have the disk space so the extra space is not a big deal). While 400 dpi does not scan lightning fast like this does at 300 dpi, it is still plenty fast for my needs and I don't find it a bottleneck. If you are scanning a lot and need the fast speeds, use 300 dpi as that will get you the speed you desire. For those wondering, while the design is a bit updated the performance is the same as the fi-7160, which everyone loves. This scanner also has Wifi built in and Ethernet built in. We just use it via USB (as we use them dedicated to a single computer). The new features, plus the scanning buttons (touch-screen, customizable) allow for it to be used more flexibly in a modern office. If you use it like us, via USB, not sure there is any benefit in getting this over the fi-7160. If using it that way, it seems the design changes are essentially window-dressing. You pay a little more for the fi-7300NX, so worthwhile being aware of the differences. We currently have a couple of fi-7300NX's and fi-7160's, and I have not had a single issue with either, so no real reason to buy this one if the new features are not going to be used.
