Would leave 0 stars if I could. Sensor doesn't work, just about decapitated my chicken. Would have suffocated her if we didn't check happen to check on them tonight. This is not a "hard" problem to solve from a technical perspective - I have seen better products come out of high school design courses. This product is embarassing.

Runs very well so far. The original battery has lasted nearly a year, and it opens and closes well in cold and heat. It was easy to install and looks great. It only lost a star because I wish I could change settings from the app remotely. This is why... so I have it set so it opens with the sun and closes at sundown. I find out my daughter decided to play with it and shove chickens inside the coop and open and close the door manually multiple times. (there is a little button you can hit on the door itself) So at 11pm, I check my chicken camera and see the door is still open. Because it is set so it opens and closes with the sun, I cannot remotely close the door. I had to go out and hit the button to close it, and it continued on its normal schedule. I can set the door to open ONLY with remote manual opening, but to change the setting I had to go out physically to reset it with my device.Otherwise great door!

This door is very easy to install. I had purchased another brand on Amazon and it failed me. I ordered this door to replace the inferior door that I had originally purchased. The setup for the Run-Chicken door couldn't be easier. I just downloaded the Run-Chicken app onto my cell phone, followed the very simple instructions and was done! The complete install and setup was only around a 15-20 minute job. If you want to allow the door to open and close by the built in light sensor, it will take you less time! I have food lights that light up the area around my coop. So, I opted to have the door open based on the sunrise/sunset times at my location. Just so that the lights can't interfere with the function of the door. The door is also programmable to have it open and close based on times that you specify within the app, or there are other cool options for scheduling also. Such as, using the GPS location of the door. The app figures out where you are located (once you give the app permission to detect the location on your cell phone) and you can then select for it to schedule opening & closing by the actual sunrise/sunset times for your area. The safety function works great. I set the door to pause it's closing when it is half way closed to allow the chickens to have time to realize that the door is closing and rush inside. In the event that one of them is inside the doorway of the coop, there is a sensor that will stop the door from closing if an obstruction is detected. Once the obstruction is out of the way, the door will close. We love the door so far! We highly recommend it. I will update this review in the event that there are problems with the door.

Seven months so far using this door and I am (and my chickens) are very happy with it. It was very easy to install and set-up; the cord attaching the solar panel to the door was plenty long enough for us to stretch it across the coop front and around to the side, where it receives the sun. And even though we've had some very long grey stretches without seeing the sun, it hasn't had any issues functioning.The phone app is easy to use and I tried several different opening and closing settings to decide which worked best for my flock. I haven't had any issues with the door opening or closing at incorrect times, or not opening in the morning. We haven't had any icy mornings yet but the door is on a coop wall that is covered, so I don't expect it to get wet and freeze.Even my largest chickens (Wyandottes and Buff Orpingtons) can go in and out with ease. The chickens were interested in the day and pecked at it for the first day — including the button for manually opening and closing the door, which they were not able to trigger — and since then they've left it alone.All in all, I am very happy with this door.

Installation and programming were super easy. I set up my door to use the sunrise and sunset times based on my coordinates. It's been working great ever since. No more manually opening and closing for us!

UPDATE: We ordered a second door and it came with a broken piece inside. The manufacturer has been great about responding when I emailed to get help. I decided to update my rating to 5 stars for their customer service. They are sending out a new motor box to replace the one we received. I'm more than happy with their response! While I'm still bummed I can't set the closing time, overall I'm happy with the doors so far.We've had the door on for about a week now. It was super easy to install and get working. It only took about 10 minutes for me by myself. So far it's worked without fail. I'm hoping it lasts.I took a star off because you can't set the closing time. You can set it to open at any time you want - which is great because I'm trying to keep my girls in the coop longer to train them to lay in their nesting boxes. But when it comes to the door closing, the only options are 20 minutes after dark or 40 minutes after dark. My girls are in well before dark so I'd rather be able to set it to close at a specific time that works for me. It stays open way too long for my liking and I can't adjust that.The other downside is the app. I'm not bothering with the app because they seem to want more access to info on your phone than is necessary. Also, you can set it up and use it without the app, so why let them have access to all that info? It's not like you can open and close the door from the app. so it seems pointless.

Not often you buy a product these days that ticks every box. Extremely well made, functional and love the fact the it’s pre set straight from the box. Also easy to adjust settings if you want to, not sure why you would. Great product
