I very quickly replaced my original crankset with the Shimano Altus crankset. I was not disappointed. Very easy to fit, including coming with a few dabs of great for the bottom bracket and pedals. Very smooth shifting and way more solid than the original basic parts on my mid-range hardtail.

I recieved the wrong product. I ordered this for a Specialized Hardrock 29er (42/32/22T) and recieved a (48/38/28T), which is noticeably larger. This means a simple crankset swap turned into a long crankset replacement, derailleur fitting, and wire adjustment. The product itself is of good quality relative to the cost, and arrived complete and intact.

Bent the crank on my 1998 GT Palomar. It's a low end bike that I used for all types of riding. The bike really got punished when I took up MTB'ing and that's how I bent the crank. I bought a new Kona but wanted to keep the GT as a 2nd bike. I did not want to spend a ton of $$ upgrading the bike and the price of this crankset was right. Just wanted to make the bike rideable as least for non-MTB rides. After installing the crankset (needed to swap out the BB as well) I took it on the road and was very pleased with the ride and the smoothness of the shifting. This past week I took the bike on a few MTB rides and boy was I impressed! I was able to make climbs with the new crankset that I was never able to make before on this bike. The pedaling efficiency with the extra low gears was very noticeable and allowed me to keep my cadence high. I also love having the ring protector to prevent any damage to the chainring on any logrolls or jumps. In short, this was a GREAT upgrade to a low level hybrid bike. The only downside I see is that because the large ring is only 42 cogs the bike doesn't have those higher gears to really push on descents (road). But all-in-all, a great inexpensive upgrade.

I used this crank to replace the stock crank from Sun. I wanted a lower gear ratio for hills and did this crank deliver! I have a Mega range freewheel coming, but for most folks this crank would be good enough. It sure takes the work out of climbing hills. It went on the stock bottom bracket and all I had to do was lower the front derailleur for the smaller gears.

First thing, BEWARE, the product you will receive is silver, not black like in the picture, till amazon updates the image, read product descriptions thoroughly. With all that being said, this is a fantastic shimano crankset. Installs easily, comes with new bolts too. The chainguard can easily be removed using a Philips head screwdriver.I bought this to replace an ageing and bent cyclone crankset and so far am not disappointed.Amazon offers an amazing deal, bike shops sell this for $45+, for that you can save money even with buying a crankset puller.

I had some reservations about ordering an Altus crankset. I usually use Alivio or Deore cranksets on my MTBs. This Altus (one piece triple) crankset came neatly packaged and was a breeze to install; slide on to the square taper and snug up the crank bolts. I mated this crankset with an equally affordable UN-26 BB purchased from another vendor. The crankset turns smoothly. I still need to install the FD and chain on my MTB build to gauge now this crankset will perform; should work fine for a commuter/beater bike.

These are a good quality low end replacement set. This bike is used on and off with street clotheson so I was looking for the chain guard combination set. Of course I replaced the Bottom Bracket also. They do what they are made to do and made a big improvement in this bike. I also can peddlewithout the chain messing up the clothes. For a small investment I improved the bike and solved aproblem, what more can you ask for?
