This has the driver on flash memory inside the adapter itself, so the first time you plug it in it sees it as a regular USB flash drive and you need to install the driver on there to use it. Once the driver is installed the flash drive part disappears and isn't shown anymore... until you plug it back in or reboot, when it appears, re-loads the drivers, then disappears again. It ends up taking a few seconds and being an extra annoying wait EVERY time you want to use it.The speeds this offered were truly bad- it only ever allowed 150Mbps, not even the 300Mbps 2.4Ghz can give, and well below anything 5Ghz+. For some reason it only detected every network it found as a 150Mbps network- even on a 5Ghz network it still capped at that minimal speed. The signal was also REALLY weak, it lost connection between a single wall and my router some twenty feet away. Maybe the poor signal strength was the reason for the low speeds... I'm not sure, but it never gave me anything better. This also gets quite warm while in use. This was annoying to use, gave very low speeds with very weak signal reception, and was just all around a bad experience. My old 300Mbps 2.4Ghz-only adapter absolutely *crushes* this, it definitely doesn't give me WiFi 6 speeds or anything. This didn't work well for me at all... maybe a bad adapter, maybe a bad product, but I wouldn't choose it again either way. 1-star, because I can't put 0.

This little wifi adapter is easy to install and seemed promising at first. Works with both 5 and 2.4G. I have a line-of-sight situation with a desktop and my router, and wanted to use this to replace the wired ethernet connection. My internet is capped at 100 mbps, so this should be more than adequate given it's claims to support higher speeds. When I first installed it, this was the case. It was uploading and downloading at close to the speed of my wired connection. But after two days it has slowed down. Did multiple tests and it's around 38 mbps download, 21 upload. Prior was about 95 download, 42 upload. I ran a test on my phone right next to it, turning off my cellular data. Around 98 mbps over wifi. Also getting that over my ethernet. Don't know why, but this adapter now has the slows. I haven't had any connection problems with it, but the speed variation rules it out as a replacement for my ethernet.

This initially shows up as a USB thumb drive and will prompt you to install a driver. It doesn't necessarily mean it is nefarious, it could just mean that they don't want to jump through the hoops needed to get their driver included in Windows update. I however don't like that it is an EXE instead of just a INF file, but then again not everyone would know what to do with and INF file so the EXE may be necessary for that.Looking into the hardware ID in Device Manager you will find the following ID _a69c:_8d81which is a chip from a lesser known company AiC, model 8800D80. Regardless it is less than advertised. Interestingly, this chip also supports Bluetooth 5.3 and yes, that feature is enabled. Odd that great feature is not advertised anywhere, including the packaging. You get both WiFi and Bluetooth in one tiny littler adapter. Score!I don't have a home network setup to test PC to PC data transfers so I could only test internet bandwidth. Using testmynet I got an average across 10 tests of 174.1 Mbps down, 142.1 Mbps up which isn't bad for a single client on a saturated 1200Mbps connection. This should be plenty for most things, including online gaming and 4k video streaming. However, this test was conducted on a PC that is no more than 3 feet from the WiFi router. None of these small adapters have good range and performance will drop off steeply as you move away from the router, particularly if there are obstructions. These are best used in line of site situations.
