I use mostly Canon L lenses, some Sigma Art, and a few others, but none of them have the depth of color and sharpness that this lens has. The autofocus works fine, but a little slower than I'm used to (I miss about 20%). The manual focus works great, very smooth, no issues. The lens is smaller than I expected and very light weight, which is a welcome change to the professional lenses I use.I asked my wife to choose the best photos in a comparison between this lens and from the Sigma Art 24-70 f2.8 lens (paid $1,200). They were the same subject and the same settings with no editing, and without knowing it my wife chose the photos from the Yongnuo lens every time except one (out of 32 shots). I cannot say enough good about this lens. Do some research and it won't be long before you see that everyone else in professional photography says the same thing. It's truly remarkable!DXOmark website is where I first heard of this lens. They do scientific testing on lenses and post the results. I wanted an extra sharp lens so I filtered the chart by sharpness. The sharpest lens was Sigma Art 50mm f/1.4, the second sharpest lens was the Sony G master 70-200mm f/2.8. And the 3rd sharpest lens was this Yongnuo. For overall abilities and features, this lens came in 6th place out of hundreds of professional lenses. Sharpness is not the only factor in choosing a lens. But if your needs are within the functions of this lens, then you just found an incredible bargain for $345.

As a professional wedding photographer, I was hesitant to purchase an off-brand lens, but the YONGNUO YN85mm F1.8S DF DSM has completely won me over.Pros:Sharp and Fast: The image quality is impressive, with excellent sharpness and a smooth bokeh.Lightweight: Much easier to handle compared to other 85mm lenses, making long shoots more comfortable.Great in Low Light: Autofocus is surprisingly reliable even in dim environments, which is crucial for wedding work.Affordable Alternative: Delivers professional-level results at a fraction of the cost of name-brand lenses.Cons:Build Quality: The plastic construction feels a bit less premium, but it doesn’t affect performance.Overall, this lens exceeded my expectations. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly 85mm prime that performs exceptionally well, even in low light, this is a great option!

I recently had my beloved Sony 85mm f/1.4 stolen. It's one of the finest portrait lenses on the market. On the advice of a friend (and against my better judgement) I purchased this lens. i figured it would be worth a quick test and then send it back.Boy was i wrong! It is sharp ... no it is SHARP!! But unlike macro lenses and at least one high-end portrait lens it is not harsh. The micro-contrast is very kind to skin while showing every imaginable detail - even on my 60MPix camera. The autofocus is accurate, quiet and fast enough for me. I haven't tested it on sports yet but that's not what this lens is for.If I have a criticism it is that it does not feel all that substantial. Time will tell whether it will stand up to the rigors of professional use. I'm sure it's not weather sealed so no rainy wedding-day shots for this lens. But that's a very small compromise for such a massive price advantage.I'm sure that in a direct head-to-head test the $2,000 85mm lenses from Sony, Nikon and Canon will be marginally better - even if only by being 0.4 stops brighter. But are they $1,600 better - not a chance IMHO. This lens punches waaaay above its weight and will likely stay in my camera bag for a long long time.

I tell you what.. lens shopping can be the most confusing thing ever. The exciting options of course would be the Sony/Nikon/Canon you name it Prime lens, Zeiss... Hasselblad! I get it. $3000 lenses but I can't afford that. Photography is not my main profession (as much as I want it to be, its not happening YET).That said let's discuss what I do want.I need some prime lenses that can handle film and photo. I need to have more than 1 lens. I am combining a variety of shots and clips into final products. Landscape, close up portraits and more. Which makes $2-3K Lenses even more scary. When Im driving around italy with my ducati and people are lining up for me to take a picture of them sure.. I can buy all the nutty lenses i want.Let's first start with saying this, the DXO review is spot on. This lens is SHARP. I just walked around took some pics off the cuff didn't care and barely touched them up. I have had a hard time getting the LCP file to show up on Windows/Mac (I am using Photoshop Beta and camera raw 15.5 i have the file loaded in the right places its not showing) so with the LCP maybe it looks even better. Most of the reviews are like "well if you're not a real photographer and are on a budget, then this is a good entry to the low budget mid tier..."Ok stop. I see the problem now. You have people who HAVE taken out a mortgage on lenses and they will not be outdone by this Yongnou little thing. it is little. It's small, flimsish. YesBut if what you want is SHARP Pictures at 85mm with 1.8 this craps on the big dogs for the price. I can see where the AF will not hold up for wildlife or speed and there the big dogs have better lenses but. If you just want to break in or take sharp vids this is a great entry. A usb C to update firmware on the side! Look at that! (Hey Samyang and Rokinon I'm looking at YOU!!!)Its $300. If you setup the stage right you can take a pic as great pic don't tell anyone its a Yongnou although if Yongnou could-- they should do Pro Version lenses -- I think they through all they had at GOOD GLASS for the lenses (thus the sharpness) and cheapened everything else to keep the price point. So a pro version with metal sealed version of this? I bet they could do it and still be half price of other brand lenses. Really not a bad pick up for my arsenal.
