The job of a nightstand clock is very basic, to tell time accurately, to allow for alarms at certain times of day, and to also function as a radio. The MX-CR140 performs all of these, and also provides a USB charging port in the rear. This clock-radio features:* 12-hour Clock* Two alarms* Buzzer or Radio alarm* Snooze, Sleep Function* Radio (FM) 87.5 MHz --> 108 Mhz* 20 Pre-set stations* Dimmer function for LCD display* Aux-in Jack* USB charger (port is USB-A style)* Dual-Speaker* ST/MO mode (Stereo / Mono)* Wire antenna (can be bent/mounted as needed)The clock is small for a clock-radio, it is a 3.5" cube, and features 2 speakers, when a clock-radio of this size would normally include a single speaker. The white LCD display is .85" tall, and honestly, could have been made bigger. There seems to be more than enough space to have made the characters on this display at least an inch tall. There is also no AM/PM indicator, only a white dot that appears in one of the 12-hour cycles, so this dot either means AM or PM, depending on how you set it up.This clock-radio accepts AAA batteries, although these days, an on-board lithium battery would have been welcome, because if the AC adapter is unplugged, without batteries installed, you will need to reset the time, and any stored information in the memory. Just seems a strange decision to have it run off of AAA, when the world is moving quickly towards Li-ion batteries. All in all, not a bad little clock-radio!OVERALL: APROS:+ 2 speakers = Stereo or Monaural mode+ Bright white LCD+ Small footprint (3.5" cube)+ Good radio reception with antenna extended+ 2 AlarmsCONS:- LCD display could be larger- Takes AAA batteries. I thought those days were over!!

This clock radio looks and sounds good, but the user interface is unnecessarily complex.Design: The box includes the main clock radio unit, a power cord, and instructions. The device is roughly cube-shaped with rounded edges. The left and right sides are speakers. The front has a circular LED display, the top has control buttons, and the back has ports for power, USB charging (5V, 1A), AUX in, and the FM antenna wire. There’s also a battery compartment on the bottom (batteries not included).Size: The unit measures approximately 3.6" x 3.6" x 3.6". The power cord is 4 feet long.Controls:Buttons include: Power/Function, Memory/Set, Up, Down, MO/ST, CH Mode, Volume - (AL1)/+ (AL2), and Snooze/Sleep/Dimmer.Clock setting: Setting the time is unintuitive. There is no Clock or Time button as typically found on other clock radios. To adjust the clock, turn the unit off and hold Memory/Set until the time flashes. To set alarms, turn the unit off and hold Volume - (for AL1) or Volume + (for AL2). The display shows alarm status with tiny dots and no labels, making it hard to tell what’s active. Overall, the time functions aren’t intuitive or easy to remember.Radio: To autotune stations, turn the unit on and hold the Memory/Set button. Unfortunately, autotune often captures stations with poor reception. Manual tuning and storing up to 20 presets is possible, but tedious. When tuned to a strong FM station, the sound quality is good.Final thoughts: Overall, the ergonomics of this device fails miserably. While the radio sounds good, the clunky controls and interface make it unnecessarily complicated to use. My condolences to anyone who loses the instruction booklet.

I'll start off by saying that - for the price - this is a decent enough, basic alarm clock. It's compact in size and it has some nice features that I wouldn't necessarily expect on an alarm clock at this price: stereo speakers (and a stereo/mono switch), dual alarms, aux input, a USB charging port. I also like that the battery back up uses AA batteries instead of the 9V my old alarm clock required. I always have some rechargeable AA's around, I never have a 9V battery when I need one.Unfortunately I think this alarm clock is let down a bit by its "user interface" (for lack of a better term) - it could be better designed for ease of use. Buttons do different things depending on what "mode" it's in (radio on or off), and some have different functions depending on if they are pressed quickly or held down. The display also has ease of use issues. AM/PM, FM Radio, Alarm 1 Enabled, Alarm 2 Enabled are all indicated by unlabeled dots on the display between the clock digits. You just have to remember what each one means, no hints.Alarm is loud enough for me at its the loudest setting. I would not mess with anything below the loudest setting. If you need a very loud alarm, you may be disappointed. FM reception is fine for local stations. "Sleep" setting (to turn the radio off after a certain amount of time) is settable in 10-minute increments up to 90 minutes. Snooze, unfortunately, is not configurable - just the standard 9-minute snooze. There is no AM radio. The manual is not great, but enough to help you muddle through and set what you need to set.

Don't even waste your time with this clock radio. So, it will not work at all with AAA batteries, so you must use the supplied AC adapter. Even then, every button has multiple functions on each. I was unable to set the time. I can get a radio station on FM only; there is no AM access. The size is pretty small and portable and totally black. It is lightweight like a feather. I was expecting better than this. There is no value for your money. Nice try but terrible product. It is definitely not easy to use, just about impossible unless all you want to do is get am FM channel only, but it needs AC power. It literally says in the manual that it will lose time on AA batteries as they lose their charge. Well, it doesn't even work with just AA batteries. Don't even bother.
