I’m not an expert but this did exactly what I thought it would do. Keep in mind you have to add Rosen or it won’t make a sound. I found the psaltry in a thrift store and it didn’t have the bow. I’m thinking about ordering another because I have seen some people play with two bows.

It looks nice, but it's a shame that the majority of the hairs are loose, so it produces a sad, weak, little sound, even after using rosin. I thought maybe I could pull the strings by the knot shown in the picture and tighten them up, but both sides of the hair are glued into the wood with no slack on either end to work with. Don't buy this.

Packaged well, came quickly, synthetic hair is good because it hasn't been affected by humidity--or lack of--looks good, good size.

A nicely made bow spoilt by too many loose hairs

Good bow that matches the one that came with my Roosebeck bowed psaltery so I can now play with two bows.

At first, I was disappointed with this bow, because it had synthetic strings rather than horsehair. But try as I might I could not find anyone who had horsehair bows in stock, so I was stuck with this one, which is identical to the one I got with my Stringed Psaltery from Lark of the Morning in California. The horsehair has more tooth, it is better in producing a tone. To satisfy myself, I bought some violin bows of horsehair, but they are entirely too long. I had also gotten the violin bows because there was no way to adjust the tension on the Psaltery bow. But I pushed on. I then discovered using the rosin and all fears about tooth and tightness disappeared. The Psaltery and bow were now in sync with one another, and I was happyThe finish on this bow is very nice, a darker brown, not the blond I find on so many instruments these days. There is a way to tighten the threads on the bow. But I am not adventuresome enough to try, as there seems to be remarkably little forgiveness in the design. For all but the most accomplished professional, I recommend this bow (and get lots of rosin.)

I have a walnut and maple handmade Psaltry ordered from a well-known couple who have made old-fashioned instruments for years at the Tamarack Artisans Hall in West Virginia. So, I am used to the longer, handmade walnut bows with real horsehair strings! The Roosebeck bow was smaller and has white polyester strings that were not all tightened to the same tension that I was used to using. I suppose you can use scissors to cut-off loose strings??I tried-out the Roosebeck bow, but went back to the comfortable feeling of my handmade, longer bow.I returned the Roosebeck Bow to Amazon and had no problems getting a refund. The Roosebeck bow would be more suitable for beginnig psaltry players. Once you get used to an old-style walnut-bow's size and tone, it may be harder to switch over to factory produced bows. Other customers may enjoy this smaller bow. The price is of Roosebeck Bow is much lower of course than that of a handcrafted wooden and horsehair bow, so some people may want to try the small Roosebeck bow for that reason.
