I have a Sony A7 II with an included lens that could only go down to 28mm so I thought about getting a 20mm prime to see how it could benefit my photography journey, and I am so glad I made that decision. I was taking photos for my school events and family wedding and was amazed by how much easier it was for me to take large group photos and selfies all because of an 8mm difference. The photos have turned out great and has also noticeably reduced my overall camera weight to a nice comfortable level when going out on photo runs.

VILTROX AF 20mm F2.8 f/2.8 Full Frame Lens, Wide Angle Autofocus Prime Lens for Sony E Mount Camera a7 a7R a7S a7C a7II a7RII a7III a7IV a7RIII a9 A1 FX3 FX6 ZVE1 A7CRI found the Viltrox AF to be a fine 20 mm wide angle view lens that interfaces with my Sony E mount camera body very well, thank you. Autofocus works well and smoothly, there is no chromatic distortion at the lens extrema, there appears to be a good bit of UV coating (bright blues come in that way when this is so rather than a bit washed out) and the image quality is excellent. The included lens hood fits just fine and mine clicked into place both easily and audibly.Note this is NOT a $3000 lens by Zeiss. This is a $160 lens and at that price point, succeeds brilliantly. Yes, much of the lens is constructed of plastic, true. A metal-based lens of this quality would run 5x. Good job!An STG Synergies BTN Enterprises Review!

This lens from Viltrox perfectly compliments standard zooms by providing a wider 20mm focal length. This lens also combines well with Sigma and Tamron's late offerings that start at 28mm.The best part of this lens is that it's super affordable. The build quality is mostly plastic and fairly lightweight, but honestly that makes it better as a secondary lens to carry. It feels solidly made and high quality. The autofocus is definitely slow than a Sony G master lenses, but it's good enough, especially since Sony cameras tend to grab focus quickly.

For the price I think this is the best budget autofocus lens you can get for Sony. I mean I don't even think it's close. You get a autofocus speed of about 80-85% of native Sony lenses. I think that's totally fine for a lens onder $200. The 20mm field of view is nice and wide without causing much distortion at all. It is an mostly plastic build but it still feels good in the hand. I have the Sony 20mm GM lens and I was having a difficult time seeing the difference in shots taken with that lens and this Viltrox one. I mean unless you take photos/videos for a living I just don't see why you would spend that kind of money a GM lens demands when you have this one on the market. Quite possibly the best bang for buck autofocus lens on the market.

I just picked up this lens to complement the Sony kit 28-60mm F4-5.6 that came with my camera (Sony ZV-E1), giving me a bit faster and wider option. My first impressions of the lens are positive. This is pretty cheap, so don't expect a metal body, but it uses a solid feeling plastic body. Not those lightweight, toy feeling plastics, but a more durable one. Despite covering full frame, this is a relative small lens and while substantial feeling, is pretty lightweight overall. The front lens hood goes on easily, but doesn't have the reassuring "click" when locked into place. It doesn't feel loose or anything, but doesn't take much force to rotate, so feels slightly insecure compared to most others I've used. The lens mount itself is metal and clicks onto the camera with no wiggle. To test out the optics, I took some photos around my yard, all wide open at F2.8 and most at close focus and some with the sun backlighting the subject, which should bring out any chromatic aberration this lens might have. Zooming in, I was unable to find any examples of the purple/green fringing on high contrast edges, which tells me the CA is very well controlled on this lens.I really like the out of focus falloff when focused close (7.5" minimum focus). It has a very painterly look to it and really draws the eye to the subject. When focused further away, the lens exhibits good sharpness in the center but gets a lot softer around the edges. I tend not to shoot much landscape photography, so edge to edge sharpness isn't as big of a consideration for my sensibilities, but the sharpness falloff is fairly drastic. For instance, the ladybug shot is sharp in the middle, but once you get to the outer thirds, you can see that nothing in the debris field is sharp, which some of it should be on the focal plane. The lens does flare a bit when hit by a strong light source. As you can see from the tall tree, you get a bit of an orange crescent near the edges and the lens can also exhibit some purple flare. A few of my other shots with the sun directly in frame didn't have these flares. Corner light falloff isn't terrible, but I can see darkening in all the corners. Now, before you think this is a bad lens, keep in mind it's only $158 as of this review. It's not perfect, indeed it has its issues, but most of the deficiencies I'm finding work well with the type of shooting I do, lending character to the image that ultra-clean optics don't. Many people use these wider type lenses for landscape photography where sharpness and even frame illumination are what they need, and this lens isn't really what they are looking for.Note: After taking the photos, I realized the lens mount has a USB-C port for updating firmware (not mentioned in the included documentation that comes with the lens). My lens came with v1.0.9, but the current revision is v1.1.2, so I installed that after the pictures were taken. The website was all in Chinese (thanks Google translate), but once I got the file, it unzipped with instructions in English for both Mac and Windows (though the included screenshots are primarily in Chinese). Installation of the new firmware was super fast and easy.

There are a few caveats though. With the aperture fully open it is very clear in the center. The border areas are not quite as sharp which is typical even with premium lenses. Auto focus is smooth enough to give it an 85 or 90 out of a hundred and way better than similar competitors. It goes slightly out of focus briefly when changing the depth away from the subject. Image stabilization is not built into the lens but rather depends on the camera for that. It's a feather light weight since it is made out of plastic and is surprisingly small. The camera mount is made of metal. The overall feel of the lens is that it is a quality lens. It is well suited for a wide array of applications and uses. There is no aperture ring on the lens. Don't confuse this with a macro lens whereas it requires a minimum distance from your subject. Overall, a nice addition to your arsenal.
