These worked pretty good. But it was hard to put lead back in and it kept slipping. I like that it comes with a lot of lead and a sharpen.

If you want something cheap for school this might work. But if you are doing something that requires even a small degree of precision, you are better off spending more for a pair of quality bow compass from Staedtler. The legs on this one aren't even properly aligned so it's absolutely not suitable for drafting.

The lead slides up no matter how much you tighten the screw. The spring at the top does not keep enough pressure on the leg so there is about 1/4" of "play". Making a round circle is extremely difficult.

Some other reviewers have reported problems with keeping the point or pencil lead tight in this compass. I haven't had that problem, but I expect with an item this inexpensively made there will be a lot of variation from unit to unit.Mine's working fine so far, and it's a lot better than the compass I had been using, which was the type where a regular pencil is clamped to one of the legs.

It came with some bare short leads. I had hard time to fix the leads firmly on the compass leg. The leg is too smooth to hold the lead by simply clamping the lead on the leg. Eventually, I have to wrap the lead with a bit tape and then I can install it on the leg.

Makes circles easily for the most part. I found if you aren't careful it will move when you adjust your hands to go all the way around in the circle, which kind of defeats the purpose. But then if you hold it down too hard, you get a hole in your paper. You also only can use the pencil lead with it. Granted, mostly you want to use pencil, but sometimes, when crafting, I would like to make circles in colored pen or pencil. It is easy to adjust. And there are a lot of extra leads. And a sharpener if you need it.

This is way better than my old compasses from school that you inserted a pencil into. It's more precise, balanced and elegant. You can get about as large as a 9" circle, and of course any size smaller than that.It really works so smoothly and accurately. It's secure and doesn't lose the angle you set it to, so you get a perfect circle each time.

The problem with most compasses that you can find on Amazon is they dont lock the radius adequately. Even those labeled as lockable, are not rigorously lockable. In constract, this one locks by virtue of the bow and screw design. This one marks a circle on paper and wood without compromise. Marking a cricle on wood is hard because the wood grain wants to alter the radius. This one ignores the wood grain and holds true. Love it!

Badly designed. there is no way to tighten the screw enough to make the pivot pin stay in place. Both the pin and the leads are simply clamped into the metal body of the compass and are supposed to stay in place based on squeezing the metal with the thumb screws enough to clamp them. That doesn't work.
